Parking restrictions at Westview Villas have been a burden to residents for years. The board can remedy this because the board has rule-making authority. We're seeking the adoption of new parking rules that benefit as many residents as possible without drastically changing the character of the neighborhood. This is about compromise to better meet the day-to-day needs of residents. This can be accomplished without changing the CC&R's. Please visit the FAQ's below for more detailed information.
What do you see as a reasonable compromise? Please comment below or send email to westviewparking@gmail.com.

We own a home in the community and live just a few blocks away.
We have heard from many homeowners, most of them community residents, who have expressed their frustration with parking and the unwillingness of the board and management company to try to make this better.
It's not reasonable to expect a busy two-car family to always park in tandem in the garage and driveway. Many vehicles today are too large to fit in the garage, or too long for the driveway without blocking the sidewalk - creating another problem.
Although the roads in our neighborhood (Schaeffer, Ellie and Britta) are public streets, the HOA can enforce the CC&R's which apply to all owners (or their tenants). Section 6.10 limits parking to the garage and driveway, but also grants the board authority to designate additional parking. An absolute ban on street parking is not required.
The board can adopt new rules to improve the parking situation. The board has already used its rule-making authority to allow for limited guest parking. They can do this for owner parking as well.
The board can use its current rule-making authority to make this situation better. The CC&R's do not need to change.
We propose rules to allow some street parking. There is valid concern about homes with many drivers filling the street with many cars.
A resident should be able to park one of their cars in the street during the day. And we would propose no overnight parking for owners in the street.
This is just an example, the community will decide.
Communicate with the board and attend board meetings. Even if you don't support a change, we'd like to hear from you. What are your concerns about changing parking rules and how can those concerns be mitigated.

Let us know your position on the issue and what concerns you may have. Talk to your neighbors. Encourage them to contact us and let us know their position on the issue, too. We want to know what a compromise looks like to you.
We wait for the next board meeting to continue the conversation around parking rules. We expect the board to share the opinion of their attorney. We hope the board will be open to using their rule-making authority to try to make things better. We seek a compromise to benefit as many residents as possible without drastically changing the character of the neighborhood.
