Many people attended the April board meeting to discuss the parking restrictions in our community. The board decided to suspend this conversation to first consult with their attorney for an opinion about their rule-making authority (see the April 11th update below). They promised to provide that opinion at the July meeting, but instead cancelled the meeting.
It's a disappointing delay for residents living with the parking restrictions day to day. We requested that they still hold the July meeting. Instead, they will be scheduling a meeting in August.
We expect to continue this conversation with the board at the next board meeting. We hope you'll be able to attend.
In attendance, Elizabeth (community manager), Breana and Don (board members) and about 12 others both in-person and on Zoom. Of the 12 properties represented at the meeting we believe 5 supported a parking rules change, 3 opposed any change, and we’re not sure of the position of the remaining 4.
We reported hearing from a bit more than ½ of the owners, ⅔ of responses have come from owner/residents and ⅓ from owner/landlords. 80% of our responses support a change to the parking rules. Elizabeth reported hearing from 8 owners, with 7 opposed to any change and 1 in support. Not surprisingly, our data skews towards support and Elizabeth’s data skews toward those opposed.
There was a constructive conversation about parking. Thank-you so much to those who were able to attend. Your comments made an impression. In the end, the board decided it would be best to consult with their attorney. They will be asking for an opinion on just what the CC&R’s allow the board to do before engaging in further discussion about the parking. This seemed reasonable to us. They'll report back at the next board meeting and we'll be there.
In the meantime, we continue our attempts to contact owners who haven’t yet responded to us. Changing the CC&R’s is challenging, but we’ll keep working at this. Even with the current CC&R’s we believe a good compromise can be reached regarding parking rules and enforcement.

Another round of letters went out yesterday to owners who didn't respond to the original letter. We continue to receive responses, At this point we're still just trying to gauge how owners feel about this.
We believe the next HOA board meeting will be on April 10th, but we haven't seen an official meeting notice yet. We plan to continue our conversation about parking with the board at that meeting. We hope you'll be able to attend. We'll pass along meeting details as soon as we know them.
Our letters went out on 2/20. We've received responses from about a quarter of all owners. The responses are overwhelmingly in support of changing the parking rules. Here are some of the them:
But we need to hear from many more. We'll send another round of letters or postcards to those who haven't responded. We may also go door-to-door sometime in the future. If you could encourage your neighbors to respond, that would be a great help. At this point we're still just trying to gauge how owners feel about this.
